I just want to address an issue that I’ve seen coming up time and time again in my tumblr feed for the past while. Quite a few bloggers are posting their thoughts that belief in God or having a faith is only for weak people who need a crux to hide behind, or that “religion” makes you dependent and that you should be strong enough to rely on yourself. What’s wrong with seeking help or refreshment when you’re feeling down, confused, hurt or stressed?
Anybody does this, whether they seek to find comfort in confiding with a friend, asking a family member for advice, unloading their thoughts to a counsellor or even reading a self-help book. Why are those methods not for weak people who are looking for strength outside of themselves? Admitting that you can’t do something by yourself or you cannot go it alone is not weakness. For Christians (or anyone who calls upon the Lord for that matter) God is there to listen to them as they loading their thoughts in prayer, while asking for guidance and direction and searching for answers in the only universal self-help book, The Bible.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28
“She drinks pints of coffee and writes little observations and ideas for stories with her best fountain pen on the linen-white pages of expensive notebooks. Sometimes, when it’s going badly, she wonders if what she believes to be a love of the written word is really just a fetish for stationery.”—One Day by David Nicholls (via carriehopefletcher)
